About The Role Peraton is seeking a highly skilled UI/UX Designer (Journeyman) to join our team supporting the MODES III program under the Military Community and Family Policy (MC&FP). This remote position requires an individual with a strong background in user-centered design principles, interaction design, and accessibility standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing engaging, accessible, and functional interfaces for web and application products that serve both the public and internal staff users. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including developers, product managers, and analytics leads, the UI/UX Designer will translate user research and performance data into intuitive design solutions that enhance usability and meet performance benchmarks. The role demands a proactive approach to usability testing, iterative design, and adherence to federal accessibility standards such as Section 508 and WCAG 2.x. An active Secret clearance is mandatory, with a preference for candidates eligible for Top Secret/SCI clearance.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years with a Master’s degree; or 7 years with an Associate’s degree; or 9 years with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated capability within the Cyberspace IT workforce, validated through an approved industry certification such as A or Network or equivalent military/educational training as per DoD 8140 Qualification Matrix.
  • Active Secret clearance is required; eligibility for Top Secret/SCI clearance is preferred.
  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Axure, Sketch, InVision, or similar.
  • Knowledge of responsive, mobile-first UI design principles and accessibility standards (Section 508/WCAG 2.x).
  • Basic understanding of HTML/CSS for design handoff purposes.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum development environments.
  • Strong stakeholder facilitation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver user-centered interfaces and interaction patterns for MODES III web and application products, ensuring accessibility, usability, and performance standards are met.
  • Create wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, interactive prototypes, and detailed component specifications for web and mobile platforms.
  • Iterate on designs based on usability testing results, analytics data, and user feedback to optimize user experience.
  • Conduct and support usability testing (moderated and unmoderated), synthesize findings, and implement actionable improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility standards such as Section 508 and WCAG 2.x, working closely with development teams to implement technical accessibility features.
  • Develop and maintain UX artifacts including journey maps, personas, task flows, design pattern libraries, and component documentation to promote consistency and reusability.
  • Collaborate with product managers, developers, and analytics teams to translate user research into prioritized design backlog items and measurable UX KPIs.
  • Participate actively in Agile sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives, delivering design assets within time-boxed cycles.
  • Support rapid iteration and continuous improvement of user interfaces in a fast-paced development environment.
