What To Expect (Job Responsibilities)

  • Abstract, submit, analyze, and design quality data for the Trauma Registry
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in trauma data to support performance improvement and research
  • Perform data collection, abstraction, and entry of trauma patient information in a timely manner
  • Generate applicable reports as requested by the Trauma Program within the trauma registry database
  • Assist in preparation for American College of Surgeons Level I trauma center verification

What Is Required (Qualifications)

  • Associate’s degree in technology, coding, medical/nursing/biological science, Health Information Management, or related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in healthcare information or clinical/administrative information systems
  • Proficiency with Epic and Trauma Registry software products or similar database software
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations

How To Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience in Trauma, Burn, or Cancer Registry
  • Certification in Abbreviated Injury Scale (CAISS) or as a Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR)
  • Experience in ICD-10CM & PCS coding, AIS/ISS coding, and scoring
  • Ability to achieve a minimum of 8 hours of trauma-related continuing education annually
  • Completion of the American Trauma Society Registrar Course or State equivalent within 1 year of hire
