Position Overview The Tool Room Specialist is essential to maintaining the precision and performance of tooling used in high-speed can manufacturing. This role focuses on machining, repairing, and optimizing tooling, dies, and fixtures to ensure consistent production quality and minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities Tooling & Machining

  • Perform advanced machining and tool room operations using a variety of materials and techniques
  • Repair, modify, and fabricate tooling components, including dies and replacement parts
  • Operate manual and CNC equipment such as lathes, mills, and grinders
  • Support tooling refurbishment and precision part production

Precision & Quality Control

  • Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges) to ensure exact tolerances
  • Inspect finished components to verify quality and compliance with specifications
  • Maintain tooling inventories and prepare tool sets for production use

Technical Support & Problem Solving

  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings to plan machining processes
  • Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to resolve tooling and equipment issues
  • Analyze root causes of tooling failures and implement corrective solutions

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in equipment rebuilds and tooling upgrades
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency, extend tool life, and reduce downtime
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment

Qualifications Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of machining ferrous, non-ferrous, and composite materials
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications
  • Experience with CNC programming, OD/ID grinding, and jig grinding
  • Solid understanding of tooling repair, fabrication, and rebuild processes

  • Flexible and able to work varying shifts, overtime, and weekends as needed

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Technical or vocational training in Tool & Die, Machining, or a related field (preferred)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (high-speed production preferred)
  • Proven experience operating machine shop equipment and precision measuring tools
