Job Title: Supervisor – Cashier

Department: Swinomish Convenience Enterprises

Reports to: Store Manager

Direct reports: Cashier

Summary:

The supervisor is responsible for the direction of the cashiers and works cooperatively with, and assists, all departments with projects, as request.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Supervisor-Cashier:

  • Assigns work tasks to cashiers and trains new employees on cash register operation.
  • Assists in maintaining store stock; including, but not limited to, ordering, rotating, and visual displays.
  • Maintains the security and appropriate level of funds in the change box.
  • Provides accurate and timely documentation of item exchanges, returns, gas run-offs, employee call-ins, and other incidents in or around the gas station.
  • Promptly resolves customer issues to the satisfaction of both the customer and the store, while keeping management informed of the decisions.
  • Promotes the compliance of policies and procedures, and effective personnel performance, while practicing constructive employee relations and setting a positive leadership example.
  • Accurately and efficiently conduct sales for the convenience store according to established policies and procedures.
  • Collect payment, dispense change, and provide customers with purchase receipts.
  • Dispense lottery ticket winnings.
  • Maintain the security of all funds in the register at all times, including making timely cash drops to maintain the cash drawer at, or below, the maximum level of funds.
  • Verify the age of customers if they are purchasing alcohol or tobacco products.
  • Activate fuel pumps for tribal members and house accounts.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of stock and merchandise at all times in the register work area; including, but not limited to, tobacco products, liquor minis, and drink station items.
  • Maintain a clean and neat appearance to the register work area and drink station.
  • Assist with floater duties as needed; including, but not limited to, stocking, cleaning, filling propane containers, and gas spill cleanup.
  • Assist the deli with food preparation and cleanup, if needed.
  • Alert superiors of any broken or damaged items in and around the gas station that need to be written off, replaced, or repaired.
  • Alert superiors and police of any suspicious activity in and around the gas station.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Supervisor – Cashier:

  • Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, etc. for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Must have excellent cash handling and customer service skills.
  • Must have a current food worker’s card.

Other Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be able to proficiently and safely operate propane fuel dispenser.

Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school education preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a Washington State Food Handler’s Permit.
  • Must have minimum of six months supervisory experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Able to deliver friendly, courteous, prompt customer service.
  • Able to read, write, and perform simple math problems.
  • Able to interpret, understand, and follow instructions and solve problems.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and oral drug screen.
