Job Description The Social Media & Content Creation Specialist is responsible for developing and executing a strategic, creative,

and mission-driven social media presence for the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh. This role focuses on audience

growth, brand awareness, and engagement through effective marketing campaigns, compelling storytelling, and

high-quality photo and video content. The Specialist supports a wide range of initiatives including fundraising,

program promotion, recruitment, recognition, and community engagement through innovative, data-informed

content strategies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Bachelor’s Degree marketing, communications, journalism, English, media, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in social media, digital marketing, content creation, or professional writing.
  • Ability to work weekends.
  • Valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation required.
  • Demonstrated strength in writing, editing, and storytelling across digital platforms, with the ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences.
  • Strong interviewing and listening skills with the ability to translate conversations into compelling written stories.
  • Experience with photography, video editing, and content creation tools; graphic design and website content management skills are a plus.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive social media content strategy to grow and engage audiences across platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Proactively identify emerging trends, opportunities, and innovative content ideas to keep the YMCA’s digital presence fresh and relevant.
  • Independently plan, schedule, and publish timely, mission-aligned content that reflects the YMCA brand and values.
  • Edit and proofread content to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with YMCA brand voice and messaging standards.
  • Capture, edit, and produce high-quality photo and video content—including short-form videos, interviews, event coverage, and behind-the-scenes storytelling—for social and digital platforms.
  • Work independently in the field to identify and capture strong visual and written storytelling opportunities.
  • Maintain visual and messaging consistency while adapting content to platform-specific best practices.
  • Identify and develop compelling story angles that highlight the Y’s impact on individuals, families, and communities.
  • Independently pitch and execute new storytelling series, campaigns, or recurring content themes that support organizational goals.
  • Own and manage the social media calendar to ensure consistent content flow and cross-departmental alignment.
  • Monitor performance metrics, analyze trends, and create reports to inform strategy and recommend data- driven improvements
  • Write clear, compelling, audience-focused copy for social posts, campaigns, and digital storytelling that brings the YMCA’s mission to life.
  • Collaborate with YMCA branches, camps, and program teams to uncover stories, support engagement goals, and elevate diverse voices across the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects independently, balancing fieldwork, editing, publishing, and strategic planning responsibilities.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
