Senior Merchandiser & Planner

New York City Metropolitan Area | Hybrid

Company Overview

Solid & Striped is a contemporary fashion brand known for refined swimwear, beachwear, and women’s ready-to-wear rooted in timeless style. Built on a foundation of iconic swim, the brand has expanded into knitwear, dresses, and elevated resort essentials that balance polish with ease.

We operate with a focused assortment across DTC and wholesale channels and are entering the next phase of disciplined growth. As the business scales, we are investing in stronger merchandising and planning infrastructure to support clarity, accountability, and sustained profitability.

The Opportunity

This is a high-impact role for a senior merchandising and planning leader who wants to build and refine the operational foundation of a growing contemporary brand.

The Senior Merchandiser & Planner will own end-to-end merchandise and financial planning across swim and ready-to-wear, partnering closely with Design, Production, Marketing, and Leadership. This role will shape assortment architecture, define financial guardrails, and implement the systems and reporting cadences that drive revenue growth and margin discipline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own seasonal and annual financial plans including sales forecasts, OTB management, margin targets, inventory flow, and markdown strategy.
  • Define assortment architecture across categories and channels, including SKU count, depth, pricing tiers, and lifecycle strategy.
  • Partner with Design on line planning, cost targets, and category mix to ensure alignment between creative vision and financial objectives.
  • Lead weekly and monthly reporting on sales performance, sell-through, inventory health, and KPI tracking.
  • Develop and institutionalize planning tools, dashboards, hindsight frameworks, and cross-functional calendars.
  • Drive in-season reforecasting and inventory optimization to maximize revenue and protect margin.
  • Collaborate with Production and Operations to manage delivery cadence and inventory flow.
  • Identify and implement efficiencies across merchandising and planning processes as the business scales.

Qualifications

  • 7 to 10 years of experience in merchandise planning, buying, or a combined merchandising and planning function within contemporary fashion or apparel.
  • Experience in swimwear strongly preferred. Deep understanding of seasonal flow, size curves, depth strategies, and demand patterns within swim is highly valued.
  • Experience in a growth-stage or scaling brand environment where processes were evolving. Proven ability to build structure, not just operate within it.
  • Demonstrated ownership of seasonal and annual financial planning including sales forecasting, OTB management, margin targets, inventory turn, and markdown optimization.
  • Strong experience defining assortment architecture across DTC and wholesale channels.
  • Advanced Excel skills required, with the ability to build financial models from scratch. Experience with Shopify, NetSuite, or comparable ERP and inventory systems preferred.
  • Strong commercial instinct paired with rigorous analytical thinking.
  • Clear communicator capable of aligning cross-functional teams around financial priorities and product strategy.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Fashion Merchandising, or related field preferred.
