Description and FunctionsOpen Until FilledGENERAL DESCRIPTION: Rooted in Wyoming’s only gold rush, South Pass City State Historic Site is an amazing place to work and live. Located between the southern end of the Wind River Range and the Red Desert, the 400-acre historic site features a truly unique history. Gold was discovered here in 1867 and the town once boasted 2000 residents. Now many of the original buildings and the Carissa Mine remain. Today, our staff work together to create engaging and lasting experiences for over 15,000 visitors per year.We are looking to add 4 team members to our summer season. Team members will learn all aspects of the site and will work within interpretation and facility maintenance. - Lead public & school tours of South Pass City, Carissa Mill & English Tunnel.
- Demonstrate historic mining & milling equipment
- Review historical documents & images for use in interpretive programs
- Assist in handling fragile, rare & unique historic objects
- Scan and transcribe old documents into electronic format for research & exhibits
- Assist with maintaining historic exhibits
- Assist with all public events
- Maintenance of historic and modern structures; painting & simple projects
- Perform daily janitorial work
- Grounds Keeping; mowing & trimming
Qualifications PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:For all seasonal positions, preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate excellent customer service. Preference may be given to applicants who are attending or have attended college or university in any of the natural resources, history, cultural resource management, interpretative services, mining, engineering, military operations, or transportation.
**Must have a valid driver’s license.
**Must be at least 16 years of age.KNOWLEDGE:
- Skills in public speaking and communication
- Small tools, landscaping equipment, and power equipment
- Safe use of ladders and scaffolding
- Ability to manage & complete multiple projects with variable timelines and scopes of work
- Microsoft, Google Docs, or similar skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: None – See “Preferences”Necessary Special Requirements PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Must work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds, with or without assistance.
- Working weekends is required.
- All positions are 40 hours per week.
