Safety Watchman – Night Shift – Alaska Pacific Seafoods (SAFETYW – APS)
The North Pacific Seafoods Kodiak plant known as Alaska Pacific Seafoods or APS operates 12 months a year with peak production during the summer months The Safety Watchman supports the Environmental Health and Safety EHS Coordinator in maintaining environmental compliance workplace safety and facility monitoring during overnight hours This position also assists with routine inspections documentation bunkhouse checks and incident response while helping ensure company policies and regulatory requirements are followed The Safety Watchman will conduct regular walk throughs of the production facility and employee housing areas to identify potential safety hazards ensure compliance with company policies and maintain a safe working and living environment This role also assists with recordkeeping incident documentation and monitoring key environmental and operational systems The position serves as an on site safety presence during nightshift operations and reports observations incidents and potential risks to the EHS Coordinator and management RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct and document daily EHS walk through inspections of the production facility grounds and surrounding areasPerform regular bunkhouse checks to ensure housing policies and safety standards are being followedMonitor and verify completion of daily or shift powered industrial truck inspection formsConduct daily sea surface and shoreline monitoring in accordance with environmental compliance requirementsMonitor flow meters dailyConduct water sampling to record PH total residual chlorine and temperatures this will be tested every 3 hours once per week while production is operating Respond to on site incidents injuries medical emergencies or near misses and assist supervisors and the EHS Coordinator with accident investigations and documentationAssist employees and supervisors with incident reporting and workers compensation claim documentationScan organize and file safety and environmental paperwork to the facility serverMonitor company email and respond or forward messages as appropriateMaintain a visible safety presence during nightshift operations and report unsafe conditions or behaviorsAssist with maintaining safety records and documentationOther duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or equivalent requiredObtain and Maintain CPRFirst Aid certificationPrevious experience in safety security facility monitoring or seafood processing preferredBasic understanding of workplace safety practices or willingness to learn environmental and safety regulations related to seafood processingAbility to observe identify and report safety hazards or policy violationsStrong attention to detail and ability to complete documentation accuratelyBasic computer skills including email and Microsoft Office Word and ExcelAbility to communicate effectively with employees supervisors and managementAbility to work independently during nightshift hoursAbility and willingness to live and work in Alaska in a seafood processing facility environment This includes working in inclement weather and around production hazards such as moving machinery wet floors noise and forklift trafficConsistent and reliable attendance is an essential function of this positionTransportation Room and Board The majority of employees are locals who live in town Non local employees may be able to live in our small bunkhouse which is located at the plant The rooms are assigned based on gender identity with up to six employees to a room with bunk beds and a shared bathroom Bed linens are provided and a communal washer and dryer is available on site Alaska Pacific Seafoods charges employees 500 per day to stay in the bunkhouse Alaska Pacific Seafoods does not provide meals to employees No Tolerances North Pacific Seafoods prohibits the use sale or possession of ANY drug not medically authorized We do not allow the use or possession of marijuana medical or otherwise at our plants Employees may be asked to submit to random post accident or for cause testing at any time and NPSI reserves the right to search all areas of the plant without advance notice in order to maintain the no tolerance policy Important Considerations This work can be hard monotonous and boring There is no way to predict how much work will be available since these are wild fisheries Payroll Information Pay periods are biweekly Our workday is defined as the calendar day and our work week runs from Monday through Sunday Employees are paid on the
