Application Tips Job Summary Install, configure, support, and maintain computer software applications, system interfaces, and related peripheral devices for the Information Technology (IT) Department. Provide experienced technical support, troubleshooting, and functional diagnosis for system users, including operating systems, specialty software applications, and integrated business systems under basic supervision.

  • Install, configure, modify, diagnose, troubleshoot, and support computer software applications, standard software, specialty applications, and related hardware or peripheral devices.
  • Provide experienced technical assistance, functional application support, and user training; resolve software and system-related issues within scope of authority and training.
  • Interview users to collect information about application or system problems, lead users through diagnostic procedures, and determine whether issues are related to software, configuration, workflow, or user operation.
  • Define user problems, research and isolate error sources, implement application-based or configuration-based solutions, and follow up with users to ensure optimal system functionality.
  • Deploy new and enhanced software applications, updates, and related components for County users and specialized department systems, including integrated or mobile applications.
  • Replace or update defective or outdated software packages, configurations, or related components as needed.
  • Maintain and support IT hardware, specialized client equipment, audio/visual equipment, and peripheral devices, and perform preventive maintenance to minimize future system or application failures.
  • Evaluate County IT systems and identify application or system issues that may require improved technologies, updated configurations, or revised policies and procedures.
  • Research technical issues and recommend software solutions, application enhancements, components, and accessories; prepare reports on software utilization, system performance, and operational issues.
  • Refer complex problems that are beyond the skills of the PC Specialist to senior technical staff and track the issue until it has been resolved.
  • Cross-train in technical skills for maintaining IT hardware, software, databases, and servers, with emphasis on application support and system functionality.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of experience IT Technical Support.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Arizona residents must have an Arizona Driver’s License upon hire; newly established Arizona Residents must have one within 30 days of hire.
  • May be required to obtain Terminal Operator Certification for access to Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (ACJIS).
  • Successfully complete a thorough background investigation.
  • May be required to obtain additional specific skills training and technical certifications, including A , N , and Microsoft Certified Professional.
  • Knowledge of technical support principles, processes, and standards.
  • Knowledge of capabilities of IT systems, including networked environments and specialized hardware and software applications.
  • Knowledge of hardware, software, and peripheral equipment troubleshooting techniques.
  • Skill in installing, configuring, testing, operating, and maintaining IT hardware, equipment, software, and computer systems.
  • Skill in using basic tools, equipment, and procedures for maintaining and repairing computers and peripheral devices.
  • Ability to assess customer support needs and implement effective solutions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Independent body mobility to stand, walk, bend, and sit for prolonged periods of time and/or drive a vehicle. Manual dexterity to reach, and grasp; manual dexterity to hand write or use computer keyboard; vision sufficient to see/read; hear and speak to communicate with customers in person and over the phone.
