Summary Description The City of Urbandale is accepting applications for Parks & Recreation Building Attendants. The Building Attendant is a part-time, year-round position responsible for assisting with the opening, closing, and securing of recreation facilities during events, leagues, rentals, and public use. Staff in this role help ensure the facility operates safely and smoothly by enforcing policies, assisting patrons, and supporting Recreation Coordinators with facility operations. Building Attendants are scheduled as needed (PRN) and oversee facility rentals and activities but are not responsible for planning programs or managing leagues.Responsibilities include preparing the facility before events by unlocking the building, checking cleanliness and safety, and ensuring the space is ready for guests. During events, attendants monitor activities, enforce facility guidelines, and serve as the main point of contact for renters and guests. Duties also include light custodial tasks, assisting with setup and cleanup, conducting post-event walkthroughs, and securing the facility while reporting any issues to supervisors.This role offers flexible hours across weekdays, evenings, and weekends, making it perfect for those balancing school, family, or other responsibilities.   • Implement regular inspection in all facility areas to ensure activities are conducted safely and appropriately.
  • Open, close, and secure facilities at mentioned times.
  • Performs cleaning duties and ensures cleanliness in all facility, storage areas and restrooms.
  • Guide participants and other staff.
  • Enforce and comply with all established policies and procedures.
  • Sanitize all high-touch, high-frequency areas after the program completes for the day.
  • Make oneself visible at all times to renters and all program participants.
  • Checks to see that equipment, buildings and sites are cleaned up and in proper order.
  • Oversees activities at the facility, including checking in and out rental equipment.
  • Acts as a liaison between general public and Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Collects fees associated with rentals or programs. Completes necessary reports associated with rentals.
  • Handles basic problems and/or complaints that arise.
  • Performs clerical duties.
  • Oversees public drop-in use and assists walk-in patrons.
  • Provides tours and information to public regarding rentals.
  • Answers phone and fields questions from the general public regarding Parks and Recreation and facility events.
  • Performs general maintenance and housekeeping duties at the facility, as required.

Periodic Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Attends training sessions and other meetings as required.
  • Assists in setting up and/or taking down for programs, events and rentals
  • Responds to emergencies (i.e. fire alarm) and first aid needs as they arise.

Typical Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must successfully complete the following post-offer, pre-employment requirements: reference checks, drug screening, motor vehicle report and background check.
