Role: Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Los Angeles, CA – Northridge Area (onsite)

Contract

Key job responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical design and layout trade studies for space hardware
  • Generate detailed designs via CAD systems and engineering drawings with appropriate geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Deliver well-written documentation, reports, and presentations for technical design reviews and as part of proposal efforts
  • Design and support test campaigns, both development and qualification/acceptance, for aerospace grade hardware.
  • Experience working with cross functional teams and a strong ability to collaborate.

Basic qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Structural, and Aeronautical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 7 years of experience including significant time designing structural or avionics systems for space
  • 5 years of experience with Siemens NX, NX Teamcenter, & GD&T per ASME y14.5
  • Experience supporting development and qualification test campaigns of flight hardware
  • Hands on experience assembling and integrating space hardware

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Mechanical, Structural, and Aeronautical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Track record of successfully delivering compelling written reports and complete designs on time, to scope, with high quality
  • 7 years of experience with Siemens NX, NX Teamcenter, & GD&T per ASME y14.5)
  • Finite element analysis skills (FEMAP/NASTRAN or equivalent)
  • Space hardware thermal vacuum test experience
  • Space hardware vibration test experience
  • Solid understanding of design for manufacturing methods
  • High sense of ownership, urgency, and drive; resourceful, and able to deliver results with minimal direction
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experienced with Issue tracking applications (JIRA, TRAC)
  • Demonstrated experience working with government agencies
