Description The Special Programs Division is seeking Maintenance Aides for the Laurel-Beltsville Senior Activity Center.Maintenance Aides play a critical role in ensuring facilities are safe, clean, and properly prepared for daily operations, programs, and special events. This position supports the overall functionality of the center by performing general maintenance duties and setting up rooms for classes, meetings, and special events. Staff must be dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.Work hours: This position has morning, afternoon, and evening shifts available. Positions are Part-time or Seasonal depending on assignmentFlexible scheduling may include evening and weekendsOpportunities for training and career developmentExamples of Important Duties

  • Set up and break down rooms for programs, meetings, rentals, and special events (tables, chairs, staging, equipment)
  • Perform routine facility maintenance and minor repairs
  • Ensure rooms and common areas are clean, safe, and ready for use
  • Monitor facility conditions and report maintenance issues
  • Assist with moving furniture and equipment as needed
  • Support emergency procedures and respond appropriately when required
  • Maintain storage areas and ensure equipment is properly organized
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support facility operations

Minimum Qualifications Required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Physical capability to perform room setups, breakdowns, and maintenance tasks
  • Basic knowledge of tools and general maintenance practices preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Enjoys hands-on, physical work in an active environment
  • Is reliable, punctual, and takes pride in their work
  • Can follow setup diagrams and verbal instructions accurately
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Is comfortable supporting programs serving adults and seniors.

Supplemental Information Working Conditions/Environment: This position is primarily indoors and requires extended periods of standing, as well as lifting and moving heavy objects. You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
