Job Description


The Director, Laboratory EHS is responsible for continuous improvement of both existing and new methodologies to improve quality, efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction. The Laboratory Director is a subject matter expert and provides technical support and direction to management, laboratory staff, clients, project management, sales, and other network laboratories as needed.

Job functions:

  • Works with operations team to ensure laboratory SOPs, instrumentation, staff training, and regulatory compliance are suitable and continually improving.
  • Supports efforts to drive efficiency in the laboratory through method development, instrumentation/equipment upgrades, process improvements, utilization of GBS, employee training/mentoring, workload and shift balancing, and other tasks.
  • Oversees the process to bring on new methods and services including instrumentation, training, certification, and reporting.
  • Develops solutions for non-routine inquires.
  • Liaises with clients and with sales team through meetings and technical presentations as a SME for the purposes of winning new work, designing new work programs, and being a contact point for key strategic customer relationships.
  • Contributes to data review, approval, and reporting. Train staff and develop process to make this process more effective.
  • Provides technical guidance and support to the Management team as required.
  • Provides support for Quality including the participation in root cause investigations, CARs, client meetings, internal audits, etc.
  • Works with other network laboratories to share best practices and help address technical issues.
  • Participates in internal and industry technical networking groups and technical meetings.
  • Identifies and executes key actions to improve customer satisfaction.
  • Operates to the highest standards of ethics, in accordance with the SGS standards of ethics and Integrity.
  • May be assigned special or related projects from time to time within the company.
  • Follows all company health, safety, and environmental policies.

Qualifications


  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry or a science-related field
  • 10 years of progressive experience in environmental testing laboratories
  • Experience in multiple areas/departments of the laboratory
  • Language Skills: Excellent spoken and written English
  • Mathematical Skills: Understands and can solve complex formulas and equations
  • Reasoning Skills/Abilities: Troubleshooting and problem solving are critical skills
  • Computer Skills: familiar with all productivity tools, LIMS, and software for collecting and analyzing data
  • The ability to use common software (i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook, LIMS)

This position pays $165,000 and is a bonus eligible opportunity. This position is not eligible for overtime pay.

In addition, your compensation package includes the following benefits:
