We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented General Accountant to join our finance team. Duties

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP, ensuring clarity and accuracy in all reports.
  • Manage general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing processes.
  • Conduct balance sheet reconciliation and review accounts payable and receivable to maintain precise financial records.
  • Support regulatory reporting requirements and assist with audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Oversee accounts payable processes, including invoice processing and vendor payments, utilizing accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero.
  • Perform cash flow analysis, bank reconciliations, and budget variance analysis to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls and internal audit procedures.
  • Assist in tax preparation activities by maintaining accurate records of tax-related transactions and supporting LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) compliance when applicable.
  • Mentor junior staff members by sharing best practices in technical accounting, financial concepts, and software tools like PeopleSoft or Microsoft Excel.
  • Support special projects related to governmental accounting, non-profit accounting standards, or securities law as needed.

Experience

  • Proven experience in corporate accounting or public accounting roles with a focus on financial statement preparation and analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP principles along with experience in technical accounting areas such as Wills, Trusts & Estate Law or securities law is preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with accounting software including QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with SOX compliance requirements and internal control frameworks.
  • Experience with LIHTC programs or governmental funding is advantageous.
  • Ability to perform detailed account analysis, bank reconciliations, and journal entries accurately under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent understanding of double entry bookkeeping, accrual accounting methods, and financial report interpretation.
  • Strong analytical skills complemented by effective financial report writing capabilities.
