SUMMARY:

The Director of Business Development (Director) drives member growth and revenue across the branch network and contact center by building a disciplined, high-performing business development culture. This role ensures consistent execution by translating organizational priorities into clear, actionable expectations for frontline teams. Partnering across Retail, Operations, Marketing, Strategy, and Digital, the Director strengthens frontline capabilities, equips leaders to coach effectively, and aligns efforts across channels to deliver a seamless member experience. Success is defined by creating consistency, building confidence in identifying opportunities, and embedding business development into the daily practices of branches and the Contact Center to drive sustainable growth through stronger member relationships.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Establishes clear branch sales expectations, behaviors, and routines that promote consistent execution and sustainable performance. Equips Branch Managers, Contact Center leaders and frontline leaders to confidently coach, develop, and reinforce business development and deepening member relationships.
  • Partners with Training to develop and maintain a robust training program that equips staff to identify opportunities and match members with the appropriate products.
  • Simplifies sales for the branches by translating strategy into practical, everyday actions through business development.
  • Partner with Marketing to create programs that expand brand recognition and drive additional business.
  • Oversees retail business development performance metrics, reporting, and analysis to drive accountability, inform decision-making, and support continuous improvement. Responsible for planning business development efforts to increase member growth and retain members. Work with Branch Managers to uncover and evaluate events in the community in which Scott Credit Union (SCU) can participate.
  • Successfully drives results to attain goals for new member growth, share of wallet growth, profitability and increases in deposits and lending.
  • Partners with members of Branch Network and Training to deliver financial literacy opportunities to members and prospective members.
  • Stays up to date on industry trends, market conditions and competitor behavior.
  • Uses insights from data analysis to refine strategies and improve outcomes.
  • Prepares reporting for management on business development performance.
  • Identifies opportunities to work with Select Employee Groups to provide credit union benefits.
  • Develops and manages an incentive program that rewards team behaviors aligned with strategic initiatives and organizational goals.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but serves as a leader and mentor for other staff. Provides direction to leaders and teams, coaches and motivates employees, trains employees, and supports the credit union’s goals.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

Ability to work with senior executives and other staff. Maintains strict confidentiality of records and information. Uses diplomacy and tact in dealing with persons from outside and inside the organization. Able to work with minimal supervision, be a self-started, and be detail oriented. Must be professional in actions and appearance, organized and dependable. Position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and a positive attitude. Regular, predictable attendance is required.

Responsible to keep the following confidential as it pertains to SCU, member and employee information and is defined as the following:

  • ++Financial record information++, which includes but is not limited to the information contained in a document granting signature authority over an account, a statement, ledger card or other record on any account which shows each transaction in or with respect to that account, a check, draft or money order drawn on a financial institution or other entity or issued and payable by or through a financial institution or other entity or other item containing information pertaining to any relationship established in the ordinary course of business between SCU and its members;
  • ++SCU business information++, such as member lists, pricing, purchasing activity, business strategies or techniques, operational data, marketing materials and methods used to develop and maintain member relations.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in business development, sales leadership, or relationship management.
  • Experience translating data and business insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Personal computer experience to include Microsoft Office products.

PREFERRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working in a financial institution.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to members, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

No requirement.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

General knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point. Ability to understand credit union software programs and interpret credit union terminology, policies and procedures. Ability to utilize Human Resource Information Systems. Ability to operate office equipment such as scanner, photocopier, personal computer, printer, and other machines generally found in a contemporary office environment. Operates in a strategic analytical mindset.
