Diesel Rolling Stock Mechanic
GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Diesel Rolling Stock Mechanic is responsible for operating repairing and maintaining the facility vehicles forklifts cars and trucks including engines motors pneumatic and conveyor systems gears hydraulics and other machinery The port engineer is also required to provide maintenance to fishing vessels on site as needed Supports corporate policies and initiatives This position reports to the Plant Manager RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain and repair all types of automotive marine hydraulic and industrial equipmentInspect hydraulic gas diesel and electrical systems; repair as neededPerform general maintenance and installations on fishing vessels as requestedExamine parts and materials for defectsResponsible for maintaining meticulous service recordsMaintain adequate stock levels of parts oils fittings and fuelsMinor welding and fabricationDiagnose mechanical problems both in shop andor outside as neededPlan with and receive direction from plant manager regarding current and upcoming projectsRespond to routine and urgent calls as required by plant managerOther duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS 3 years experience working as port engineer or rolling stock mechanic preferredKnowledge of operating repairing and maintaining diesel and gas enginesAbility to read and understand repair manualsMust have valid drivers licenseKnowledge of extended boom forklifts and cranes preferredGeneral metal fabrication skillsKnowledge of basic hydraulicsEffective oral and written communicationsIntermediate Microsoft Office skills Word Excel Power Point OutlookStrong organizational and time management skillsCritical thinking and problem solving skillsAbility and willingness to work in a remote area of Alaska and work in a seafood processing plant for several months This includes traveling and working in inclement weather and in a seafood production plant inherent hazards include moving machinery ammonia wet floors noise forklift traffic etcAbility to works long hours seven days a week during the production seasonsConsistent and reliable attendance is an essential function of this positionWORKING CONDITIONS Must be able to work long hours in wet and cold conditions While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts The employee is frequently exposed to wet andor humid conditions and extreme cold The employee is occasionally exposed to high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration The noise level in the work environment is usually loud
