Responsibilities
Role Overview: What You’ll Be Doing
Wheels Up is looking for a versatile Data Engineer to join our growing Data Platform team. This role combines core data engineering with light DevOps and operational responsibilities to deliver scalable, reliable, and governed data solutions that power analytics and business insights.
Your Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Translate business needs into scalable data pipelines using PySpark and Spark SQL
- Build and maintain data ingestion and transformation workflows
- Migrate legacy stored procedures and SQL logic into modern, cloud-native pipelines
- Develop automation and tooling for CI/CD, monitoring, and data quality checks
- Manage production operations: troubleshooting, bug fixes, and access controls
- Support data governance, permissions, and operational best practices on Databricks
- Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver trusted, high-quality data products

Qualifications
What You Bring to the Table: Education & Certification Requirements
We’re looking for someone who has a unique mix of experience, skills, and passion for what we do:
- 3 years of hands-on data engineering experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
- Strong Python and SQL skills
- Deep expertise of distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Spark)
- Solid understanding of ETL design, performance tuning, and cost optimization
- Cloud experience (Azure preferred; AWS/GCP welcome)
- Knowledge of data lake/lakehouse architectures
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Eye for detail, good data intuition, and a passion for data quality
- Comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment with ambiguous requirements
The Extras We Value (Preferred Requirements)
While not mandatory, here are some additional things that would make you stand out:
- Experience with Databricks and orchestration tools (Workflows, Terraform)
- DevOps familiarity (CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
- Databricks, Azure, or cloud certifications a plus
What We Offer: Salary Range & Benefits
At Wheels Up, we believe in fair compensation based on experience, skills, and qualifications. The salary for this role ranges from $84,000 to $120,000, depending on a variety of factors. We don’t typically start individuals at the top of the salary range; your place within the range is based on what you bring to the table. Additionally, you may be eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program, which rewards individual and organizational performance.
