About The Role The Staff Data Analyst will be an integral member of the Block Compliance Analytics team, focused on embedding data-driven strategies within the Compliance organization. This role requires a professional with extensive experience in Financial Crimes and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) domains. The successful candidate will develop and lead initiatives that deliver actionable insights to leadership across the organization, enhancing the effectiveness of our compliance programs. Additionally, you will be responsible for communicating the story of our compliance efforts to regulators and external stakeholders, ensuring transparency and adherence to regulatory standards. Your expertise will help quantify compliance risks, inform strategic decisions, and support Block’s mission to redefine the global relationship with money through innovative compliance analytics.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 6+ years with a Master’s degree, or equivalent professional experience
- Minimum of 5+ years of compliance and AML experience
- Expert-level proficiency in SQL and data analysis/visualization tools such as Tableau or Looker
- Extensive experience in ETL development and data pipeline management
- Proven ability to solve large, complex problems with minimal guidance, leveraging broad technical expertise
- Strong project management skills with the ability to navigate fast-paced, evolving environments
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating technical insights for diverse audiences
- Meticulous attention to detail and professional polish
- Preferred: CAMS or other AML certifications
- Experience in FinTech, consulting, or financial crimes compliance systems and processes
- Familiarity with automation tools such as Python, R, or Prefect (preferred but not mandatory)
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of data strategies for regulatory engagements, including ETL processes and source data validation
- Translate regulatory expectations and commitments into actionable insights, influencing compliance and product roadmaps
- Utilize raw data to educate internal teams and external partners on regulatory impacts, policy changes, and environmental shifts affecting compliance programs
- Collaborate with legal, engineering, and other cross-functional teams to inform and shape strategic compliance initiatives
- Establish yourself as a thought leader within the organization by connecting insights to strategic actions through effective communication
- Leverage subject matter expertise to educate, coach, and influence stakeholders at all levels, supporting the long-term success of Block
- Manage multiple high-impact workstreams, demonstrating agility in communicating complex concepts across various levels of abstraction
