About The Role We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Fund Accountant to join our team. This role is pivotal in managing and overseeing fund accounting transactions, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and supporting the organization’s financial integrity. The successful candidate will work in a hybrid environment, combining remote work with in-office collaboration at our locations in Annapolis, DC, or Baltimore. The Fund Accountant will be responsible for performing month-end closing activities, reconciling accounts, preparing financial reports, and supporting audit and compliance activities. This position offers an excellent opportunity for professionals with a background in fund accounting, real estate, or public accounting to advance their careers within a reputable organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in accounting or financial management roles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting best practices, financial management, and fund accounting processes.
  • Experience with fund accounting systems, including Yardi or equivalent software.
  • Familiarity with month-end close procedures, reconciliations, payables coding, and foreign exchange calculations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, demonstrating independence and teamwork.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and numerical aptitude.
  • Strong problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines.
  • Professional certification such as CPA or CMA is a plus.

Responsibilities The Fund Accountant will be responsible for a broad range of activities, including:

  • Supporting all aspects of fund accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Performing month-end closing activities, including reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Collaborating with the finance team to complete accounting tasks within established deadlines.
  • Generating client billing statements and conducting timely account reconciliations.
  • Evaluating and providing recommendations for computerized accounting systems to enhance performance.
  • Preparing and presenting financial reports and statements for managerial review.
  • Analyzing financial discrepancies and proposing effective resolutions.
  • Monitoring expenditures, analyzing revenues, and reporting budget variances to management.
  • Responding promptly to accounting inquiries from management and other stakeholders.
  • Assisting in budget preparation, expense management, and financial planning activities.
  • Supporting audit processes by providing necessary documentation and information.
  • Conducting periodic reviews for compliance with insurance, tax, VAT, and other regulatory requirements.
