Crime AnalystPosting Closes March 17 2026 Starting Pay 2493 hourly General Description Responsible for work in the utilization of collected information on reported crimes and criminals to prevent and suppress criminal activities and apprehend criminal offenders Minimum Qualifications Bachelors degree in public administration business administration political science or related field ANDOne 1 year experience as a Crime Analyst or similarly related analytical work in management or law enforcementA comparable amount of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirementsMust possess and maintain a valid Florida Drivers LicenseMust be able to work a twelve 12 hour shift rotating between dayshift and nightshift including holidays and weekends and mandatory overtime to meet operational needsBackground Screening This position will require an extensive background investigation and drug screening Essential Functions Performs all duties of a Real Time Crime Center RTCC Specialist as the foremost priority and carries out additional Crime Analyst functions including statistical analysis and investigative supportPrepares statistical analysis of offenses by district and patrol zoneRequests to assist in investigations and decision makingGenerates and distributes maps relating to temporal crime events as well as bulleting charts and graphsGenerates and distributes maps of sexual predatorsoffendersReviews county intelligence bulletins run RMS queries in responseConducts comprehensive traffic accident studies with maps and other analysisPrepares AutoMC theft tracking for grant funded task forceConducts meetings and presentations ie neighborhood watchesPrepares Narcotics buffer mapsAttends deposition court appearancesPerforms administrative duties monthly reports documentation required by professional standards etcAttends work on a regular and consistent basisMust adhere to Federal State County and local ordinancesPerforms other duties as assignedStatus Civilian Blood and Viral Pathogen Risk Minimal Risk Environmental Conditions Inside and occasional outside workMust be able to work under stressful conditionsMust be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needsMust be able to remain available to work when a public emergency or disaster occursSkills and Abilities Ability to learn and use various computer softwareAbility to interact effectively with othersAbility to read and comprehend technical and professional journals and manuals; reports letters memos abstracts instructions; legal documents ordinances and statutesAbility to write reports memos letters instructions and proceduresAbility to speak publicly; conversant in theory and practices of discipline; persuasive speakingAbility to analyze data and develop conclusionsAbility to identify and resolve problemsAbility to initiate and install administrative programs and procedures and to evaluate their effectivenessAbility to comprehend analyze and extract information from law enforcement officers reports on crimeAbility to make oral written and audio visual presentations in a public or professional settingRequired Knowledge VSO General Orders and proceduresPrinciples of management and their application to the administration of governmental affairsArea of assignment including trends and concernsResearch and report writing techniquesBasic accounting principles and proceduresFlorida Statutes criminal methods of operations and crime analysis mappingOperation of ArcView and ArcInfo computer programsFluency in Microsoft Software applications such as Word Excel and AccessOperation of VSO RMS program and Volusia County CJIS programPhysical Requirements Manual dexterityAmbulate independentlySee at a normal range or with reasonable accommodationVisual acuity depth perception peripheral vision necessary to operate a motorized vehicleHear at normal level or with reasonable accommodationOccasionally bend squat reach graspOccasionally lift up to twenty five pounds 25 lbsEqual Employment Opportunity Employer MFDV
