Position Summary

Design and commission electrical control systems for related equipment. Required systems knowledge includes but is not limited to pumps, flowmeters, sensors, pressure transducers, RFID commissioning, pick-to-light, scales, encoders, torque cells, load cells, safety light curtains and scanners, and other related instruments. Provide technical support for various control systems as needed. Specifically, electronics/controls/automation related issues, in close harmony with maintenance personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, commission, and maintain PLC and automation programs.

  • Develop control systems interface, maintenance, training approaches and documentation (functional diagrams, schematics, interface control documents); report of performance, function, safety, and reliability; requirements analysis, system function, and/or existing technology/manufacturing capability.

  • Create and/or manage related electrical schematics and drawings utilizing AutoCAD.

  • Working knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic piping & instrumentation diagrams

  • Responsible for electrical safety in designs (e.g. overcurrent protection, conductor and conduit sizing, insulation, grounding, etc.)

  • Utilize Parker’s Systems Development Process to insure system reliability. Facilitate and participate in system FMEAs and the development process.

  • Support training and knowledge development of maintenance personnel relating to electronics control systems.

  • Ensure all work is compliant to UL508A, OSHA, NFPA, and NEC

  • Should keep informed of new technologies, developments, products, and applications. Identify and recommend new products/solutions.

  • Assist Plant Engineer in maintaining current electrical and hydraulic prints for all equipment in the plant.

  • Monitor and evaluate all electrical codes established by OSHA.

  • Instruct maintenance personnel in troubleshooting electrical and hydraulic circuits as needed.

  • Analyze, locate, and repair malfunctions in complex solid-state, analog, and digital control systems.

  • Must be proficient in:

  • PLC development and commissioning, ladder logic, structured text, and function blocks

  • Siemens PLC software, Codesys, DirectLogic, Rockwell Automation Software (Studio 5000, RSLogix 500, FactoryTalk, etc.)

  • HMI development and commissioning, (Parker, AB PanelView, B&R automation, etc.)

  • 6 axis robot programming (ABB, Yaskawa, Fanuc)

  • Communication protocols: Modbus, Profibus, TCP/IP, RS-232, RS-485, OPC servers

  • Servo motor controls, VFD motor controls, pumps, PID tuning, hydraulic and pneumatic systems

  • Design and build UL508A compliant control panels

  • NEC (NFPA70): 3 phase AC circuits, single phase AC circuits, and DC circuits

  • Electrical wiring compliance to UL508A

  • Machine building, component level, low and medium voltage wiring

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Electrical Engineering degree preferred and 5-7 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 5 years’ experience troubleshooting and maintaining electronic controls on PLC controlled machines and product test stands.
  • Effective diagnostic techniques along with a working knowledge of electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic circuits as well as mechanical components.
  • Proficiency in working from electronic blueprints and schematics, engineering drawings and sketches and in the use of precision test and measurement equipment.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and creativity in new product design required.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and CAD software required.
  • Comprehensive presentational skills including experience using Power Point to develop presentations required.
  • Must have ability to effectively coordinate with others at a cross-functional level.
  • Position requires strong ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form in order to present information and respond to inquiries from employees, customers, and suppliers.
