Definition Positions allocable to this class provide specialized consultative services on a per visit basis.

Essential Job Functions What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Performs medical services in a specialized field.
  • Provides specialized consultation to other physicians and related professional personnel.
  • Conducts studies to obtain data, and analyzes data to advise on or recommend solution, utilizing knowledge of theory or principles of specific discipline or field of specialization.

Requirements We are looking for dedicated physicians who have: Successfully fulfilled a residency accredited by an American Specialty Board in one or more specialties* or received equivalent training. **

  • Residencies may include any of the following: Preventive Medicine Internal Medicine Pediatrics Dermatology Family Practice Neurology Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Psychiatry Emergency Medicine Neurosurgery Thoracic Surgery OB-GYN Pathology General Surgery ENT Urology Ophthalmology Radiology Anesthesiology Orthopedics Plastic Surgery Nuclear Medicine

**License(s)** California State Physician and Surgeon’s Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California.

A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

Physical Class 2 – Light This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

Desirable Qualification Additional credit will be given to applicants who possess the following desirable qualification in excess of the requirement:

  • Specialized experience beyond board certification.

Special Requirement Information

  • Equivalent training is defined as that training which the appropriate American Certifying Board formally recognizes in writing as being equivalent. Equivalent training for appointments to the specialty of Emergency Medicine will be that training and/or experience approved by the Director of Health Services.

Information Pertaining To The Completion Of Residency Program Applicants who will successfully complete their medical residency program approved by an American Specialty Board within 6 (six) months of filing may compete in this examination; however, the names of such candidates will be withheld from the certification list pending receipt of certification for completion of the required residency program.

Applicants who have completed a residency training program approved by the American Specialty Board need to attach a legible copy of their certification to their application or email it to the analyst at hhocking@dhs.lacounty.gov within seven (7) calendar days of filing your application. Information pertaining to the required California State Physician and Surgeon’s Certificate: Applicants who have the required California State Physician and Surgeon’s Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California need to attach a legible copy of their certification to their application or email it to the analyst at hhocking@dhs.lacounty.gov within seven (7) calendar days of filing your application. The required license and/or certificate needs to becurrent and unrestricted; conditional, provisional, probationary or restricted licenses and/or certificates cannot be accepted. Applicants who do not possess a California State Physician and Surgeon’s Certificate at the time of filing may compete in this examination; however, the names of such candidates will be withheld from the certification list pending receipt of the required California State Physician and Surgeon’s Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California.

Additional Information EXAMINATION CONTENT: This assessment type will evaluate the training and experience you list on the online application and supplemental questionnaire and assign a score based on a standardized scoring system. This portion of the assessment represents 100% of your total score and examines: Requirements, Desirable Qualification and Supplemental Questionnaire.

Achieving a passing score of 70% or higher on the assessment is needed to be added to the list. Eligibility And Vacancy Information Applicants who passed the assessment are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months. Applications will be processed as they are received and added to the list accordingly. We will use this list to fill vacancies in the DHS as they occur.

No person may compete in this examination more than once every twelve (12) months. Available Shift SPECIAL INFORMATION: Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
