About The Role Mesh is seeking a highly experienced Staff Backend Engineer to lead the architecture and development of the world’s first global crypto payments network. In this pivotal role, you will operate across the full technology stack, from backend systems to user-facing applications, making critical technical decisions that shape the future of digital finance. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams—including engineering, product, and design—to develop secure, scalable, and seamless financial services. As a senior technical leader, you will define system architecture, mentor engineering teams, and influence product strategies. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with our core team in San Francisco or remotely within the U.S., contributing to a high-impact, high-growth environment that is redefining the payments landscape through blockchain and cryptocurrency technologies.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in fintech or payments infrastructure
  • Proficiency in backend development using C#, C++, Go, Java, or Python
  • Experience with cloud-native development, particularly on Azure
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong understanding of security principles, including AuthN, AuthZ, SAML, API security, and encryption
  • Familiarity with blockchain concepts such as RPCs, self-custody wallets, and decentralized ledgers
  • Solid experience designing RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
  • Experience leading engineering teams in a fast-paced startup or high-growth environment is preferred
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Passion for innovation and continuous learning in fintech and crypto technologies

Responsibilities

  • Own and execute the roadmap and implementation strategies across multiple technical domains, balancing short-term deliverables with long-term vision
  • Drive key architectural decisions and system designs to ensure scalability, security, and reliability
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation
  • Collaborate closely with leadership, product managers, and design teams to define technical strategies and priorities
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize backend services and APIs to support high-volume digital transactions
  • Leverage Azure cloud services for deployment, scalability, and operational efficiency
  • Conduct thorough testing, debugging, and prompt resolution of software defects to ensure high-quality releases
  • Stay informed about emerging industry trends, technologies, and best practices in fintech and blockchain
  • Build secure, crypto-first products that facilitate traditional financial activities such as payments and transfers
  • Champion best practices in software engineering, infrastructure as code, and DevSecOps processes
  • Ensure system performance and scalability meet evolving business needs, handling large data volumes efficiently
