About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Backend Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in architecting and building the foundational components of Mesh’s groundbreaking global crypto payments network. Operating across the full technology stack, from backend systems to user-facing applications, you will influence key technical decisions and shape the future landscape of digital finance. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams comprising engineering, product, and design, you will lead efforts to develop secure, scalable, and seamless financial products. As a senior technical leader, your responsibilities will include defining system architecture, mentoring engineering talent, and contributing to product strategy. While we prefer candidates based in San Francisco to facilitate close collaboration with our core team, we are also open to remote applicants within the United States who demonstrate the right expertise and drive.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Minimum of 3 years in fintech, payments infrastructure, or related fields
• Proficiency in backend programming languages such as C#, C++, Go, Java, or Python
• Hands-on experience with cloud-native development, particularly Azure
• Strong understanding of Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines
• Deep knowledge of security concepts including authentication, authorization, encryption, and API security
• Familiarity with blockchain technology, including RPCs, self-custody wallets, and crypto fundamentals
• Solid experience designing RESTful APIs and microservices architectures
• Experience leading engineering teams in high-growth startup environments is a plus
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Passion for innovation, continuous learning, and adaptability in fast-paced settings

Responsibilities

• Own and execute the product roadmap and technical implementation across multiple focus areas, balancing immediate needs with strategic growth
• Drive architectural decisions, system design, and development standards to ensure robustness and scalability
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation
• Collaborate with leadership, product managers, and design teams to define and align on technical strategy and priorities
• Develop, maintain, and optimize backend services and APIs to support high-volume transactions
• Leverage Azure cloud services for deployment, scalability, and infrastructure management
• Implement thorough testing, debugging, and prompt resolution of software issues to ensure reliability
• Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices within fintech and crypto sectors
• Build secure, crypto-first products that facilitate traditional financial activities like payments and transfers
• Champion best practices in software engineering, infrastructure as code, and DevSecOps across teams
• Ensure systems are optimized for performance and scalability, handling large data volumes effectively
