About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Software Engineer to join our Session Replay squad at Grafana Labs. This pivotal role involves leading the technical vision and architectural development of a new Grafana Cloud product designed to connect frontend signals with concrete session-level evidence. The Session Replay feature enables faster and more confident diagnosis of production issues by providing detailed session recordings linked with logs, metrics, and traces. As a key member of the team, you will own the end-to-end technical direction, influence system architecture, and collaborate across multiple teams to build cohesive, high-performance solutions. Your expertise will help shape the future of our observability tools, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of our users and clients.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Proven experience in software development, particularly in backend systems and APIs
- Strong proficiency in Go programming language
- Experience with columnar and analytical data storage and query engines
- Familiarity with object storage solutions such as S3, GCS, or Azure Blob
- Knowledge of relational databases like MySQL
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement scalable, data-intensive systems
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to reason about complex architecture decisions
- Effective communication skills and experience working remotely in a collaborative environment
- Understanding of user-centered software development processes
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end technical direction for the Session Replay product across frontend, backend, and data systems
- Drive architectural evolution, including designing systems for large-scale session data storage, ingestion pipelines, and query patterns
- Lead the design of investigation workflows that integrate replay data with logs, metrics, traces, and other telemetry across Grafana Cloud
- Make high-leverage architectural decisions impacting multiple teams and products
- Collaborate with teams across Grafana Labs, including Frontend Observability, Synthetic Monitoring, and Core Grafana, to build cohesive user experiences
- Enhance engineering standards, best practices, and operational procedures within the team
- Mentor engineers and foster technical leadership development within the squad
