Job Description: AML Model Owner / Model Risk Specialist

Location: Charlotte, NC

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced analytics and model-risk professional to manage the full lifecycle of AML transaction-monitoring models. In this role, you will lead model development, validation, implementation, and performance monitoring, ensuring accuracy, regulatory alignment, and continuous enhancement. You will partner closely with compliance, risk, and technology teams to drive data-driven decision-making and strengthen our financial-crime detection capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end lifecycle of AML transaction-monitoring models, including development, validation, deployment, and ongoing performance management.
• Evaluate model inputs, outputs, and assumptions to confirm accuracy, integrity, and regulatory compliance.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive model documentation to support audits, governance reviews, and regulatory examinations.
• Partner with compliance, risk, and engineering teams to improve model performance and address emerging financial-crime risks.
• Identify and implement model enhancements using big data platforms and advanced analytics techniques.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on AML transaction monitoring, model risk management, and industry best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

• 7 years of experience in analytics, model development, risk management, or related roles within financial services.
• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics); advanced degree preferred.
• Proven experience as a model owner or model developer for AML or financial-crimes models.
• Strong programming skills in SQL and Python.
• Experience working with large, complex financial-institution datasets, including transactions, customer information, and product activity.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex issues and solutions to diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of AML regulations and frameworks (e.g., BSA, USA PATRIOT Act).
• Familiarity with big data tools and ecosystems.
• Experience working on Oracle platforms.
• Deep understanding of model-risk management practices and documentation standards.
