This position is located in DISTRICT 02 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to a Highway Foreman 1, Highway Foreman 2, or Parish Hwy Maintenance Supt. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. OPERATES THE FOLLOWING HEAVY EQUIPMENT AS NEEDED:

Asphalt Distributor – Truck mounted, backhoes, front end loaders, bucket/ladder trucks, cranes/draglines, dozers, dump truck, gradalls, hot mix pavers, motor grader, lowboys, milling machines, road planer, road widener, sewer cleaners, striping machines, sweepers, track hoes, under bridge inspection units

OPERATES SKID STEERS, ROLLERS, JET AIR PATCHER, 72-HP TRACTORS WITH 15FT BAT WING MOWERS, AND TRACTOR MOUNTED SLOPE MOWER. INSTALLS AND MAINTAINS TEMPORARY TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES AND SERVES AS A FLAG PERSON DURING TRAFFIC CONTROL OPERATIONS. USES A VARIETY OF HAND TOOLS SUCH AS: SHOVELS, RAKES, JACKHAMMER, DEMOLITION SAW, CHAIN SAW, STRING TRIMMER, AND POLE SAW. PERFORMS MANUAL TASK SUCH AS POTHOLE PATCHING, MANUAL CUTTING OF BUSH AND GRASS, DITCH DIGGING, CLEANING BUILDINGS, ASSISTING IN MUD JACK OPERATIONS, CUTTING TREES, COLLECTING LITTER, CLEANING AND REPAIRING OF ASPHALTIC CONCRETE AND PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE PAVEMENTS AS WELL AS BRIDGE DECKS, AND OTHER MANUAL TASKS AS NEEDED TO ACCOMPLISH THE DEPARTMENT’S MISSION.

POSITION-SPECIFIC DETAILS:Work Location: There is one (1) vacancy for this announcement located in Terrebonne parish.Career Progression: As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Mobile Equipment Operator 1, 2 or 1/Heavy depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).Compensation: The maximum monthly salary for the Mobile Equipment Operator 1/Heavy is $6,566. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2:Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. Starting salary for MEO-2 is $17.18/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1/HEAVY:Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment.
