Process Engineer — Hydrogen & Carbon
Location: DC – Baltimore Area, 5x / week
About
A clean-tech company converting natural gas into hydrogen and solid carbon with minimal CO₂ emissions, scaling from pilot to commercial operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize PFDs/P&IDs for new commercial units.
- Use process simulation (Aspen, Ansys, COMSOL) to validate designs and spot bottlenecks.
- Support equipment sizing, specs, and vendor evaluations.
- Lead FEL stages 1–3, from feasibility to detailed design.
- Translate pilot data into mass/energy balances, TEA inputs, and scale-up models for commercialization.
- Collaborate with EPCs on design packages, cost, and constructability.
- Conduct HAZOPs, safety reviews , and provide on-site commissioning and optimization.
Qualifications
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Chemical or Process Engineering.
- 8 years in process engineering with SMR, pyrolysis, syngas, or hydrogen technologies.
- Proven EPC execution experience, including FEL stages and vendor engagement (RFQ/RFP).
- Strong in P&ID development, process controls, and safety codes.
- Proficient with Aspen Plus/HYSYS, Ansys/CFD, and COMSOL.
- Scaling pilot technologies to commercial operations.
