***THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN DISTRICT 2–SAMPSON COUNTY AND SUPPORTS SURROUNDING AREAS/DISTRICTS ACROSS THE STATE ***

The Driver Education District Supervisor’s primary responsibility is to provide direct supervision to 10 to 20 Driver Education Program Specialists who provide the services detailed above in each SBTS District. The District Field Supervisor directs and supervises all field operations within a given district, which consists of 10 to 25 counties. The District Field Supervisor must make necessary territory adjustments to provide efficient operation of the district.

Customer service and public relations are major components of this position. Effective communication between the public, private and charter school transportation departments and School Bus and Traffic Safety is essential in understanding the needs of the school systems. It is important to keep the school systems informed of changes of personnel, territory assignments, policies and procedures. Customer service is also an important factor for the Commercial Driving Schools within the district. Commercial Schools must be kept informed of changes and policies that affect their operation.

The Basic Driver Education Course for Commercial Driving Schools is another primary responsibility for the District Field Supervisor. The District Field Supervisor directs and supervises the overall operation of the Basic Driver Education School. The supervisor must conduct the schools, prepare materials for lecture, schedule instructors, and administer the required exams, and submit accurate records to the Raleigh SBTS Office.

Another primary responsibility is the Performance Management Program. The District Field Supervisor must keep accurate records of an employee’s progress to fairly and accurately evaluate each employee’s performance. The District Field Supervisor must establish work plans, conduct interim reviews, monitor and counsel employees, conduct evaluation reviews, and document and maintain records.

Many associated administrative tasks are also required. These include payroll entry into BSIP, scheduling, planning, and conducting the Basic Driver Education Courses, equipment inventory, safety programs, meetings for employees, bus rodeos, district meetings, in-service schools, mediation of employee complaints and grievances.

Management Prefers Applicants With The Following

  • Experience establishing goals and objectives that support the organization’s strategic plan
  • Experience allocating resources and coordinating people and resources
  • Experience interpreting and explaining policy, procedures, rules, regulations and/or law to a diverse clientele
  • Experience monitoring and /or assessing performance of individuals to identify what is needed for improvement or administering coaching, mentoring, counseling, corrective action, and or training
  • Must have a CDL License w/ P (passenger) & S (school bus) endorsements for two years.
