About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Data Engineer to join our dynamic team in Boston, MA, with the flexibility of telecommuting. The successful candidate will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining large-scale data pipelines and processing systems that support our energy storage solutions. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to build robust data flow channels, develop real-time data processing scripts, and optimize data architecture to enable advanced analytics and machine learning applications. Your expertise will contribute to the creation of scalable data services that underpin our platform’s capabilities, ensuring efficient data integration from diverse sources, and supporting our mission to accelerate the clean energy transition.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Operations Research, Engineering Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in data engineering or related roles.
  • Proven experience developing and managing globally distributed data services platforms.
  • Extensive coding experience with Python, Go, Java, or similar languages (Rust or Julia preferred).
  • Strong background in designing and implementing ETL/ELT pipelines for data transformation and access.
  • Hands-on experience with large-scale data pipelines and technologies such as Airflow, Luigi, Spark, Kafka, ElasticSearch, Cassandra, RDBMS, and SQL.
  • Proficiency in relational and transactional databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB.
  • Expertise in SQL query development for analytics and data retrieval.
  • Experience in optimizing big data architectures and pipelines for performance and scalability.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis on complex data and processes to answer business questions.
  • Experience working with unstructured datasets and extracting meaningful insights from ambiguous requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop data flow channels and processing systems in Python to extract, transform, load, and integrate data from various sources via APIs.
  • Store data efficiently in a feature store for machine learning models, developing complex scripts for near real-time data processing.
  • Create and maintain data pipelines using Airflow, ensuring reliable and scalable data workflows.
  • Design, develop, and update database models and schemas in PostgreSQL, managing database code through migrations.
  • Write and optimize GraphQL queries using Hasura to facilitate data interaction and updates.
  • Build DevOps pipelines to automate application build, testing, and deployment processes using GitLab, supporting rapid product deployment cycles.
  • Participate in system design discussions, providing technical insights and presenting design solutions to product teams.
  • Conduct software testing, troubleshoot defects identified during QA and UAT phases, and modify code to ensure quality standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement scalable, reliable, and secure data solutions aligned with business objectives.
