About The Role

The Senior Frontend Engineer, Core Foundation, will play a pivotal role in enhancing Airbnb’s web platform by leading efforts to improve the performance, scalability, and developer experience of our desktop and mobile web applications. This role involves collaborating closely with cross-functional teams—including Product, Data, and Infrastructure—to develop high-quality APIs, libraries, and tools that empower product engineers to build seamless, high-performance user experiences. As a senior member of the Core Foundation team, you will act as a bridge between various engineering domains, identifying productivity pain points and delivering scalable solutions that support Airbnb’s current and future product initiatives. Your expertise will directly influence the quality and speed of feature development, ensuring that Airbnb remains at the forefront of web performance and user engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum of 5+ years of industry experience in Web Client Development and Product Foundation.
• Proven experience in improving architecture and developer tooling/libraries for high-traffic websites.
• Strong collaboration skills, particularly in remote team environments.
• Deep understanding of engineering productivity challenges and solutions.
• Solid programming skills with expertise in data structures and asynchronous programming.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Motivation to work beyond comfort zones and pursue continuous personal growth.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Product, Data, and Client Infrastructure teams to design and develop high-quality APIs and libraries that streamline product engineering workflows.
• Create and review architecture design documents for new projects, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Contribute actively to codebases through high-quality pull requests, code reviews, and collaborative development practices.
• Develop comprehensive tests to verify the reliability and performance of software components.
• Stay informed about the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in web development, performance engineering, and frontend architecture.
• Identify and resolve engineering productivity pain points, enhancing the efficiency of development teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
