This class is a stand-alone classification in the Environmental Specialist series. Incumbents are responsible for conducting environmental monitoring, sampling, reporting, and compliance for Borough operations, primarily related to solid waste disposal. This role ensures regulatory compliance at Federal, state and local levels, interprets technical environmental data, prepares reports, and supports environmentally responsible programs.

Essential Duties This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department.

Supports permit compliance through inspections, reports, sampling and required submittals.

Interprets and evaluates complex technical environmental data; and ensures regulatory compliance.

Responds to and resolves inquiries and concerns from the general public, partners, the business community, and staff.

Conducts field investigations, environmental sampling, monitoring, and analysis.

Prepares regulatory reports and technical documentation for landfill, leachate treatment plant, and related operations.

Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Training And Experience Bachelors Degree in a related field and 3 years of progressively responsible experience directly related to the area assigned, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Licensing/Certifications State of Alaska Drivers License

40 Hour HazMat Certification, or willingness to obtain

ADEC Qualified Environmental Professional, or willingness to obtain

ADEC Qualified Sampler, or willingness to obtain
