About The Role We are seeking a highly experienced Rust Software Developer to join our client’s team in Herndon, VA. This is a direct placement opportunity with a competitive salary of up to $230,000 annually, along with paid relocation benefits. The role is integral to the company’s mission systems division, focusing on developing and deploying mission-critical systems using Rust programming language. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in embedded software development, demonstrate leadership in adopting new technologies, and possess the ability to work across multiple disciplines to deliver innovative solutions. This position involves supporting all phases of the software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and design to testing and deployment, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, reliable systems for defense applications.
Qualifications Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field, with a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a graduate degree with at least 10 years of experience or 16 years of experience without a degree will be considered. A minimum of five years of experience developing software in Rust for production systems is essential, with a deep understanding of the language’s features and best practices. Proficiency in C/C++ development and object-oriented design principles is required. Candidates must hold U.S. citizenship and possess an active Department of Defense Secret clearance. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are also necessary to succeed in this role.
Responsibilities The successful candidate will support and lead embedded software application development with Rust, guiding the engineering team in best practices and deployment strategies. Responsibilities include championing the adoption of Rust across multiple product lines, applying computer science, engineering, and mathematical principles to develop robust software solutions. The role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to design and evaluate hardware-software interfaces, ensuring operational performance meets mission-critical standards. The developer will participate in all phases of the software development life cycle, including requirements analysis, system design, implementation, hardware-software integration, and formal testing. Investigating root causes of complex issues, troubleshooting, and implementing effective solutions independently or within multidisciplinary teams is vital. Developing comprehensive test plans, technical documentation, and utilizing modeling tools for experimental testing and prototyping are also key responsibilities. Additionally, the role involves conducting peer reviews, tracking and repairing software defects, and mentoring junior engineers to foster technical growth within the team. Travel requirements of over 30% are expected for onboarding, integration, or scrum meetings at different company locations.
