| Purpose and Scope of the Job |
| Plans, directs, administers, and supervises activities for all Emergency Medicine patients. Reports to the Head of Department on matters relating to patient care and Emergency Medicine operations. |
| Main Duties and Responsibilities/Performance Standards |
| 1 | Ensures implementation of the Ministry of Health regulations, the Hospital Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and the Department Policy and Guidelines. |
| 2 | Responsible for the immediate evaluation and management of patients presenting to the Emergency Medicine; develops effective and high quality patient care plans; refers patients to the appropriate specialists; ensures that patients are stable before transferring them to the proper department; provides instructions for discharge and any relevant paperwork; maintains adequate patient medical records. |
| 3 | Performs all procedures according to the clinical privileges granted to him/her. |
| 4 | Provides direct supervision to the department registrars while maintaining ultimate responsibility for their patients. |
| 5 | Shares responsibility for planning, managing, and coordinating the Emergency Medicine operations and administrative duties. |
| 6 | Maintains the highest professional standard of documentation in line with policies and procedures and internationally accepted standards. |
| 7 | Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of new concepts, procedures, and techniques in emergency medicine. |
| 8 | Participates in providing education and support for all junior staff in the department and supports continuing medical education, providing teaching materials as part of the professional development of the staff. |
| 9 | Participates in relevant committee membership, if assigned. |
| 10 | Maintains the strictest confidentiality standards. |
| 11 | Participates in all other additional assignments found necessary by the Head of Department. |
| Qualifications, Competencies and Skills |
| Education |
|
| Postgraduate training and certification in Emergency Medicine. |
| Experience |
|
| Minimum seven (9) years post-EM certification experience. |
| Licensure |
|
| Valid Kuwait medical license. |
| Language |
|
| Fluent in English; working knowledge in Arabic. |
| Computer Proficiency |
|
| Good information systems skills (Microsoft Office, electronic health records, Internet). |

| 1 | Good communication and interpersonal skills. |
| 2 | Knowledge of Required Organizational Practices/patient safety standards. |
| 3 | Command over professional code of ethics, medical bylaws. |
| 4 | Knowledge of evidence-based age and population-specific patient care clinical guidelines accepted by the hospital. |
| 5 | Cultural competency of local populations. |
| 6 | Certified AHA Basic and Advanced Life Support provider. |
