Culinarian II

Overview: Incumbents in the Culinarian II position prepare meals, assist customers, and clean the kitchen and Dining Hall. Responsibilities:Distinguishing Characteristics The Culinarian II is distinguished from the Culinarian I in that incumbents in the II level possess the knowledge and experience to perform more complex tasks with less supervision.Reporting and Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThe Culinarian II reports to the Sous Chef, Chef de Cuisine and/or Executive Chef. This classification has no supervisory responsibilities but may offer guidance to less senior culinarians and student employees.Typical Functions

• Prepares meals for students, faculty, staff, and public.
• May order food and supplies.
• Organizes specific food service operations.
• Cleans and sanitizes personal work space and performs the nightly and weekly cleaning of the Dining Hall and kitchen.
• Works catered events as needed; may perform lead duties of the kitchen as requested.
• Organizes periodic deep cleaning of facilities.
• May organize, set priorities, schedule, and review work of student employees.
• May guide the daily baking, decorating, and finishing of bakery products.
• Assesses finished products and corrects problems with quality, handling, and delivery.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications:

• Two years of food service experience is required. Must have a current food handler’s permit or the ability to obtain one.

• Ability to prepare and execute menu items to specification.
• Ability to follow recipes and presentation specifications.
• Ability to maintain a clean station by being well organized and practicing safety and sanitation guidelines.

• Ability to work evenings and weekends as assigned.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Ability to work with a diverse workforce.
