Job Summary:

We are seeking a seasoned Controller to oversee all financial operations and reporting for our energy-focused organization. This critical leadership role will work closely with the CFO to support strategic planning through in-depth financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting. The ideal candidate has a proven track record in the energy and/or construction industries, brings strong leadership experience, and demonstrates technical financial expertise in a dynamic business environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all day-to-day accounting functions including general ledger, AR/AP, payroll, fixed assets, and month-end close
  • Partner with the CFO to develop and manage annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and long-term financial planning
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and management reports to support executive decision-making
  • Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and industry regulations
  • Lead and mentor accounting staff to ensure operational excellence and professional development
  • Provide financial insight and analysis for new projects, capital expenditures, and business development initiatives
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other third-party service providers
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and lead financial systems enhancements
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on financial issues specific to the energy and construction sectors

Qualifications (Hard Requirements):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (MBA or CPA preferred)
  • 10+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience, with at least 3+ years in a Controller or higher-level role
  • Significant experience in the energy and/or construction industries, with deep understanding of industry-specific financial practices
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, QuickBooks Enterprise, or similar)
  • Strong analytical, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA, CMA, or MBA strongly preferred
  • Experience with project-based accounting and cost tracking
  • Prior work in a private equity-backed or high-growth environment
