About The Role Discord is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Staff Data Engineer to join our Data team, focusing specifically on our advertising products. In this strategic role, you will be responsible for shaping the technical vision and architectural strategy for data infrastructure, ensuring the development of robust, scalable, and efficient data pipelines and datasets. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, machine learning engineers, and product managers, to translate complex requirements into scalable data solutions that drive insights and business growth. As a technical leader, you will mentor fellow engineers, foster best practices, and lead initiatives that transform our advertising offerings through data-driven innovation. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess over 7 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of designing, implementing, and maintaining high-volume, complex data pipelines within advertising or marketing technology domains. Expertise in SQL, Python, and modern data engineering frameworks is essential, along with a deep understanding of building high-throughput data pipelines for ad serving, conversion tracking, and external data integrations. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in developing data quality frameworks, monitoring systems, and automated anomaly detection for large-scale datasets containing billions of rows. Strong technical communication skills, leadership ability, and a collaborative mindset are critical, as is a passion for solving complex data challenges and mentoring engineering teams. A background in data modeling, scalable ETL processes, and experience working with structured and unstructured data sources are highly valued.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain complex, enterprise-scale data pipelines and foundational datasets, establishing technical strategy and architectural direction for advertising products.
- Design and develop sophisticated ETL processes, data models, and analytical frameworks utilizing SQL, Python, and modern data stack technologies.
- Implement data quality frameworks, monitoring systems, automated anomaly detection, and alerting infrastructure capable of handling massive datasets efficiently.
- Collaborate closely with data scientists, machine learning engineers, and product teams to incorporate their requirements into scalable and maintainable data solutions.
- Lead cross-functional technical initiatives to address complex data engineering challenges, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Develop scalable dashboards and reports that support data-driven decision-making and strategic planning.

Benefits Discord offers a competitive compensation package, with the US base salary range for this role being $248,000 to $279,000, complemented by equity options and comprehensive benefits.
