About The Role Sentara Health is seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Governance Analyst to join its team. This fully remote position offers an exciting opportunity for professionals with a strong background in data management, governance, and analytics to contribute to the organization’s strategic initiatives. The Senior Data Governance Analyst will be responsible for supporting and optimizing data-related processes, ensuring data quality, integrity, and security across various systems. This role involves analyzing business and clinical needs, evaluating software releases, and implementing solutions that enhance operational efficiency and compliance. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, clinical, financial, and operational departments, to develop and enforce data policies, standards, and best practices. They will also oversee smaller projects related to data governance and participate in system upgrades, testing, and incident management to support the organization’s data-driven decision-making framework.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree in a related field or 7+ years of experience without a degree, demonstrating extensive expertise in data governance and management.
- Proven experience in data governance practices, business analysis, project management, metadata management, data cataloging, and data stewardship.
- Strong understanding of data policies, standards, and business process flows, along with proficiency in data mapping, process improvement techniques, and data visualization.
- Expertise in analytic programming, database management, including master data management, data quality, ETL processes, storage, and cloud computing.
- Experience working with electronic medical record systems, billing systems, claims processing, and financial systems within healthcare environments.
- Solid business acumen in healthcare operations, finance, and management, with an understanding of healthcare and health plan industries.
- Relevant certifications or credentials related to data governance or healthcare IT are preferred but not mandatory.
Responsibilities The Senior Data Governance Analyst will be responsible for a range of key functions, including:
- Supporting day-to-day data governance operations, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and policies.
- Developing and maintaining data policies, standards, and procedures to promote data quality, security, and consistency.
- Performing workflow assessments and analyzing business and clinical requirements to optimize data utilization.
- Leading efforts in metadata management, data cataloging, and data stewardship to facilitate effective data management practices.
- Collaborating with IT and business units to implement data governance initiatives, including data mapping, process improvements, and data exploration techniques.
- Managing data-related projects, including planning, execution, and monitoring, ensuring timely delivery within scope and budget.
- Providing training and guidance to staff on data governance best practices and compliance requirements.
- Overseeing incident, problem, and change management processes related to data systems and applications.
- Participating in system upgrades, testing, and validation activities to ensure data integrity and system performance.
- Monitoring data quality metrics and implementing corrective actions as needed to maintain high data standards.
