Employment Type Full Time Salary Exempt TemporaryPermanent Temporary Not to Exceed September 30 2029 Deadline to Apply This application will remain open until the position is filled Rate of Pay 5000000 5200000 annually commensurate with experience This wage band is set and not subject to negotiation Job Purpose The Collection Manager for the Botany Seed Bank is responsible for the Seed Bank collection This includes facilitating and carrying out seed collection and storage activities germinating seeds and coordinating germination and planting with partner organizations The Collection Manager for the Botany Seed Bank supervises collections staff activities manages activities associated with collections use and ensures compliance with museum policies and procedures Duties and Responsibilities Collection Management and Access Develop and implement seed collection plans and protocols to ensure efficient and effective seed collection Manage and oversee seed collection activities ensuring compliance with safety standards and museum policies and procedures Process seeds and related voucher specimens for preservation and storage using appropriate methods and techniques Ensure the accurate and timely collection of data and documentation related to seed collection activities Monitor seed collection activities to ensure quality control and adherence to protocols Maintain accurate inventory records of all collected seeds including seed quantities locations and species tracking Manage the seed bank facility and appropriately secure the collections to ensure the physical welfare of the collections and associated records Monitor and control environmental conditions Conducts and supervises monthly monitoring and intervention for pests Operations and Project Support Coordinate with other teams to ensure successful project integration and support Collaborate and assist in developing and writing grant proposals to support proper care processing and access associated with the collections Supervision and Collaboration Supervise seed collection staff or volunteers providing guidance and support to ensure successful project completion Develop relationships with key stakeholders including government agencies conservation organizations and private landowners Programs Education and Professional Engagement Participate in outreach and education efforts to promote the importance of seed conservation and restoration Provide guided tours of the seed bank facilities to public groups Participation in education and public programs off and on site outreach programs providing content for exhibits and participating in fundraising events Attend and present at professional meetings and seminars on topics related to the collection Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelors degree in botany horticulture ecology or a related field Minimum of 3 years of experience in seed collection processing and conservation including at least 2 years in a supervisory role Experience with cultivation and propagation of native Hawaiian plants Demonstrated experience with seed collecting and storage protocols Knowledge of plant taxonomy and ability to identify most native species to the genus level Demonstrated experience in project management including project planning budgeting and execution Experience working with data management and analysis software Working knowledge of computers including standard office and productivity software Preferred Qualifications 4 or more years of experience in seed collection processing and conservation with at least 2 years in a supervisory role Experience growing Native Hawaiian plants Have a good understanding of ethical norms and legal requirements associated with seed collecting and other natural resource management activities in Hawaii Other Requirements The position is based on Oahu and requires regular on sire presence for leadership and coordination of Museum operations Must maintain the ability to travel independently between Museum facilities partner sites and meetings;
