MOA Guest Curator (TEMPORARY – part-time 17.5 hours/week) This part-time temporary curatorial position is one of specialized knowledge, research, scholarship, publication, and audience engagement as it is applied to exhibitions at the Museum of Art. This position will work closely with the Curator of Religious Art to prepare and present an exhibition of various types of prints (etching, engraving, lithographs, etc.) focusing on the Life of Christ. This position gives preference to someone with advanced knowledge of printmaking, and artists who have worked in it historically as well as currently. This employee must be familiar with art museum curatorial practices and have the capacity to work effectively on the development of a specific exhibition in conjunction with departments such as design, education, fabrication, registration, marketing, and retail They must be able to produce academic level research in art history and related cultures and practices.

The position may work closely with relevant University academic and student communities, seeking collaboration in the conception, development, execution, and reception of the exhibition. The position works similarly with relevant aspects of the professional and public communities beyond the University, supporting the University’s formal academic programs, supervising student research, internships, and inquiries, developing conferences, seminars, lectures, publishing and conference participation are dimensions that are integral to the position’s academic focus.

What You’ll Do In This Position Curatorial – Exhibition Development

• Research and produce a specific exhibition on prints of the Life of Christ for presentation in 2027
• Ensure the relevance of the exhibition to the academic and public audiences the Museum serves
• Write gallery texts and labels within appropriate deadlines in 2026
• Participate in regular team meetings for oversight of the upcoming exhibition
• Contribute to the production of other forms of exhibition interpretation
• Serve as content specialist in docent training and other forms of “teaching” regarding relevant exhibitions
• Provides content and character to campaigns to market and promote the Museum’s exhibits (online videos, tours, etc.)
• Collaborate with designers, fabricators and educators in the production of exhibitions and their interpretive material

Curatorial — Student Assistance & Oversight

• Work with student interns, fellows, and employees in the development of the exhibition
• Oversee student research and writing to assist in exhibitions
• Mentor student assistants as they seek professional experience for future careers and opportunities

Required What qualifies you for this role:

• A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
• Advanced degree in Art History, Art Theory, or Humanities. Minimum two years’ experience within the professional context of scholarly research, publication and professional relationships.
• Proven experience in exhibition conception and production, and in building relationships between the exhibition (work) and its audiences.
• Proven research, publication and exhibition development experience in issues central to art history, Christian iconography, theory, aesthetics, philosophy, cultural studies, and other relevant disciplines.
• Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with peers, leaders, and recipients (audiences) in a museum environment.
• Working knowledge of museum resources, audience analysis techniques, technology for research and accessing the Museum, its exhibitions, programs and collections, and resources beyond the Museum that are important to its development.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong knowledge of art history, Christian history, and world religions in both general and specialized terms
• Work collaboratively with Museum colleagues, donors, collectors, professional peers, faculty, students and other individuals and institutions in all aspects of work

Preferred

• 3-5 years experience in museum context, preferably art museums
• 3-5 years experience with the professional context of scholarly research, publication, and professional relationships.
• Established network of museum colleagues for loans, collaborations, and professional exchanges
• Leadership experience in supervising peers effectively
• Record of scholarly publications

Pay Grade: 52

Typical Starting Pay: $31.25 to $40.50 an hour
