About The Role The Medicaid Enrollment Specialist plays a vital role within our organization by facilitating the enrollment of eligible hospital patients into the Third Party Health Insurance Premium Payment Program (HIPP). This position is based at our partner hospital in Manhattan and involves direct interaction with patients, hospital staff, and community partners. The primary responsibility is to clearly communicate program requirements, assist patients in navigating the enrollment process, and serve as a dedicated patient advocate. The role requires a compassionate, proactive individual who is eager to support high-cost and medically complex Medicaid beneficiaries in accessing employer-sponsored health insurance benefits. The ideal candidate will have healthcare or hospital experience, a strong customer service orientation, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Qualifications Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Nursing, Education, Psychology, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of five years of internal hospital or patient-related experience is highly desirable. Fluency in English is required, and proficiency in Spanish is a significant advantage, as it enhances communication with diverse patient populations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a positive attitude, enthusiasm, and a strong can-do spirit, with a proven track record of success in healthcare sales or patient advocacy. Experience with NY Medicaid programs and familiarity with hospital credentialing processes, including vaccines and drug testing, are preferred. Additionally, candidates should be adaptable, able to work onsite most days, and possess excellent interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relationships with patients and hospital staff.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain positive relationships with patients, hospital personnel, and community partners to facilitate enrollment processes.
- Serve as the primary onsite contact for patients, providing clear information about the HIPP program and assisting with application procedures.
- Assess patient eligibility, gather necessary documentation, and guide patients through the enrollment process efficiently.
- Act as a patient advocate, addressing concerns, answering questions, and ensuring patients understand their benefits and responsibilities.
- Collaborate with hospital staff to identify eligible patients and streamline enrollment workflows.
- Maintain accurate records of patient interactions, enrollment status, and follow-up activities in organizational databases.
- Stay informed about updates to Medicaid policies, hospital procedures, and community resources to provide current and accurate information.
- Participate in training sessions and team meetings to continually improve service delivery and program effectiveness.
