With a focus on cloud-native applications and data management, we specialize in creating scalable, secure, and efficient platforms that drive digital transformation across various industries. Our team of experienced engineers, architects, and industry experts work collaboratively to develop solutions that enhance operational efficiency, ensure compliance, and foster business growth. At Widenet Consulting, we are committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning, ownership, and excellence, empowering our employees to make impactful contributions in a dynamic and supportive environment.

About The Role We are seeking a talented and experienced Backend Engineer to join our team remotely within the United States. This role is pivotal in designing, developing, and maintaining a comprehensive document management system (DMS) deployed on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The successful candidate will take ownership of the core components of the system, including document processing pipelines, storage solutions, and search-index design, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and aligned with business needs. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with cross-functional teams including product owners, architects, and analysts to translate complex business requirements into high-quality software solutions. You will also contribute to architectural decisions, optimize system performance, and support continuous integration and deployment practices. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer to impact a critical aspect of enterprise data management while working in a flexible and innovative environment.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess over three years of backend engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on data and database systems. A minimum of two years of experience specifically working on document management systems, preferably cloud-native, is required. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in optimizing search latency, batch processing, and addressing storage inefficiencies. Familiarity with metadata-driven organization, classification, and retention policies is essential. Hands-on experience with cloud-deployed OCR services is advantageous. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field is required.

Proficiency in modern backend programming languages and frameworks such as Node.js, Typescript, NestJS, Java, or Python, along with cloud SDK support, is necessary. Experience with polyglot programming is a plus. A solid understanding of event-driven architecture, REST API design, JSON schemas, and security best practices is expected. Familiarity with Agile methodologies and delivering solutions in both greenfield (‘0 to 1’) projects and iterative improvements is essential. Candidates should also have a passion for mentoring, documentation, and fostering a culture of ownership and technical excellence. Experience working in regulated environments such as HIPAA or PCI, especially within insurance or financial technology sectors, is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of a comprehensive document management system on AWS, ensuring scalability, security, and high availability.
  • Create and evolve document processing pipelines, including storage strategies, search-index design, metadata schemas, and lifecycle policies.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions related to backend microservices, API endpoints, event handling, and data store design.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into technical solutions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, ensuring smooth deployment and infrastructure management.
  • Proactively identify and manage technical debt, optimizing system performance and scalability through thoughtful design and domain ownership.
  • Participate in code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Support compliance requirements in regulated environments, ensuring security and data privacy standards are met.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to incorporate best practices into system design and development.
