Job Details: Established in 1980, under Connecticut General Statute 10-66a, EASTCONN is one of Connecticut’s six, public, non-profit, Regional Educational Service Centers. EASTCONN was formed when two small, eastern Connecticut public service agencies merged in order to more effectively provide regional, affordable education programs and services to the region’s smaller, often under-resourced, schools and communities. Initially, EASTCONN started with a small staff, but quickly grew as it demonstrated its expertise across a range of programs and services, including K-12 professional learning, special education, adult education and early childhood. Today, EASTCONN employs about 590 staff who work in specialties like early childhood, K-12 student programs (magnet high schools, autism, clinical day treatment, psychological-behavioral consultation, related services, transition programs), adult education, employment and training, teaching and learning, organizational support services, technology solutions, and student transportation, among others. The Support Specialist II assists students and other classroom staff to promote a safe and healthy environment for learning within our Autism program in Columbia. Experience with children with autism spectrum disorders or significant behavioral needs and application of applied behavior analysis preferred.To learn more about our program, click on .Required Qualifications: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: High School Diploma or GED, and
Experience: Employment as a Student Support Specialist I or comparable position.
Or: Combination of education and experience that is a substantial equivalent to the above education and experience.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- As required by the assigned program: Within six (6) months of appointment, must successfully obtain and maintain certification in the relevant crisis management procedure implemented by the program to which they are assigned (e.g., Safety Care or PMT).
- Depending on Program: Complete and maintain certification for First Aid and CPR.
- Per program’s or school’s fidelity measures and expectations: Continually meet satisfactory criteria in 75% or more of assessed categories pertaining to student programming implementation.
