Description Assistant Director of Law I Public RecordsThe City of Cleveland processes approximately 30,000 public records requests annually. The Public Records section of the Law Department ensures the City remains in compliance with the Public Records Act (“PRA”). The ADL will advise all City of Cleveland departments & divisions on identifying responsive documents to non-routine requests. They will manage complex requests and media requests. Asst Dir of Law I Public RecordsThe Public Records section provides training sessions to boards and commissions on the Open Meetings Act (“OMA”). The ADL will also work closely with the Office of Urban Analytics & Innovation to review all products under development for the Open Data portal. The Public Records section represents the City in Mandamus actions in the court of Claims, 8th District Court of Appeals, Court of Common Pleas and Ohio Supreme Court.Examples of Duties The most competitive candidate will:
- Proactively stay up to date on case law and legislative updates to the PRA and OMA.
- Communicate effectively with a wide range of people including elected officials, City employees, members of the media and the public.
- Prioritize competing projects on short deadlines.
- Negotiate, collaborate, offer ideas and problem-solve.
