About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Engineer to join our remote team within the United States. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead the design, development, and deployment of a comprehensive document management system (DMS) hosted on AWS. The successful candidate will be instrumental in creating robust document processing pipelines, designing efficient storage systems, and contributing to architectural decisions that ensure scalability and security. As a key member of our engineering team, you will collaborate closely with product owners, architects, and analysts to translate business requirements into high-quality software solutions. This position is ideal for professionals with a strong background in data and database engineering, particularly those experienced in cloud-native environments and document management systems.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of backend engineering experience, with a focus on data and database systems.
- At least 2 years of experience designing, implementing, or maintaining document management systems, preferably in cloud environments.
- Proficiency in modern backend programming languages such as Node.js/TypeScript, NestJS, Java, or Python, with experience in cloud SDKs.
- Strong understanding of search optimization, batch processing, storage management, and metadata organization.
- Experience with event-driven architectures, REST API design, and JSON schema development.
- Familiarity with OCR services deployed in cloud environments is a plus.
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
- Experience working in regulated environments such as HIPAA or PCI, with a background in insurance or financial technology considered advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to work in Agile teams, delivering solutions iteratively and efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills, with a passion for mentoring and fostering a culture of ownership and technical excellence.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain a comprehensive document management system deployed on AWS, ensuring high performance, security, and scalability.
- Create and refine document processing pipelines, including search index design, object-key strategies, metadata schemas, and lifecycle management policies.
- Contribute to architectural decisions related to backend microservices, API endpoints, event handling, and data storage solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business processes and translate them into effective software solutions.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including CI/CD, infrastructure management, and deployment processes.
- Proactively identify and address technical debt, optimize system performance, and ensure system robustness.
- Implement security best practices to control access and protect sensitive data within the document management system.
- Document technical specifications, system architecture, and best practices to foster knowledge sharing within the team.
- Mentor junior team members and promote a culture of continuous improvement and technical ownership.
