Position Summary: The Sr. HSES Coordinator focuses on safety programs and processes, safety equipment, and emergency response at the La Porte Site. They will work with the Production, Maintenance, & Technology teams to drive the application of safety procedures in the field through audits, develop and deliver safety training, and work with the Contractor Safety Supervisor to ensure contractor safety information is accurate and updated. Finally, they will drive all emergency response activities at the La Porte site, including training and drills in conjunction with the corporate Emergency Manager.
Responsibilities Safety Programs & Compliance
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of site safety procedures; ensure timely updates, delivery of training, and ongoing regulatory compliance.
- Champion safety culture through consistent field presence, auditing Lockout-Tagout (LOTO), hot work and cold work permits, confined space entry, and other operational tasks.
- Conduct regular safety documentation reviews and develop content for site safety meetings.
- Audit and continuously improve site safety practices and procedures.
- Participate in pre-startup safety reviews and safety incident investigations as requested.
Behavior-Based Safety & Contractor Safety
- Manage and improve the behavior-based safety (BBS) observation system, including data management and communication of results.
- Enhance contractor safety programs by updating materials in collaboration with the Health and Safety Council (HASC).
Industrial Hygiene
- Train on and manage industrial hygiene (IH) monitoring equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and calibration in coordination with IH vendors.
- Assist with annual third-party IH monitoring activities.
Emergency Preparedness & Fire Protection
- Organize and facilitate quarterly site drills, tabletop exercises, and accountability drills; complete post-drill critiques and required documentation.
- Oversee fire protection systems, including coordination of annual testing and tracking of repairs.
Onboarding, Security & Administration
- Conduct HSES orientations for all new employees on-site.
- Enforce site security standards, managing badging for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Manage document control and recordkeeping in accordance with site and regulatory requirements.
- Lead digitalization initiatives to streamline and modernize safety processes.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED; degree in HSE or related field preferred
- 1-3 years of related experience in HSE activities and regulatory requirements
- 1-3 years of related experience in chemical manufacturing facility
- Outstanding verbal and written communication, presentation, interpersonal, creative thinking, consulting, and analytical skills.
- Ability to prioritize work to manage multiple projects to meet deadlines.
- Excellent problem-solving/decision-making skills.
- Ability to multi-task
- Candidates must have a valid driver’s license.
