THIS POSITION IS ON THE OXFORD COLLEGE OF EMORY UNIVERSITY CAMPUS, 36 MILES EAST OF ATLANTA.

Reporting to the Oxford College Organic Farmer/Educator, the Organic Farm Grower is a leadership role responsible for advanced farming operations and mentorship within Oxford’s organic farm.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position builds upon the foundational skills of the Farm Apprentice role, focusing on specialized crop management, team leadership, and strategic farm initiatives.

  • Oversees ground preparation, crop planting, care, and maintenance while taking a lead role in harvesting, packing, and marketing produce.

  • Additionally, contributes to strategic planning and the implementation of innovative farming practices to enhance the farm’s productivity and educational mission.

Essential Duties Leadership & Oversight:

  • Leads and executes ground preparation, crop planting, cultivation, and maintenance.

  • Oversees mowing, mulching, irrigation, and general farm maintenance activities.

  • Takes responsibility for harvesting, post-harvest handling, packing, and marketing of crops.

Mentorship & Education:

  • Mentors and guides Farm Apprentices, providing hands-on training and support.

  • Collaborates with the Farmer/Educator to implement crop plans, pest management strategies, and soil health initiatives.

  • Contributes to the development and execution of farm-related educational and community engagement programs.

Compliance & Sustainability:

  • Ensures compliance with organic farming standards and best practices.

  • Monitors farm equipment, ensuring proper use, maintenance, and repairs as needed.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, and three years of relevant experience, or a bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., agriculture, environmental science, horticulture).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of organic farming practices and sustainable agriculture.

  • Strong horticultural skills, including propagation, weeding, pest scouting, and harvesting.

  • Experience with produce marketing and familiarity with the local food movement.

  • Proven ability to mentor and lead others in a collaborative environment.

  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working outdoors in various weather conditions.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
