Hufriedy Group, a STERIS company , is seeking a Manufacturing Maintenance Supervisor – Industrial Automation for our Chicago IL Dental Instrument Manufacturing location. You will work with a leader in the Dental Supply industry and apply your extensive industrial automation maintenance knowledge (pneumatics, hydraulics, and robotics) and leadership experience to support the dental instrument manufacturing operations (PM, Safety, 5s, Inventory Mgmt., CMMS).
Troubleshoot automation equipment in a manufacturing environment including machine controls, pneumatics, hydraulics, and motor repairs.

The Role
The Maintenance Supervisor at Hufriedy, a STERIS company, reports to a Maintenance Manager and supervises the activities of the maintenance team in our Chicago, IL location. This role ensures the timely completion maintenance and repairs for our production equipment and building systems, oversees the preventive maintenance (PM) program, maintains inventory systems and makes recommendations to improve processes. As a working supervisor, the Maintenance Supervisor performs complex repairs of automated and semi-automated equipment used in the manufacture of dental instruments. The Maintenance Supervisor promotes a safety culture and drives continuous improvement of 5S according to STERIS standards.
Work Hours: 6:00 am — 2:30 pm Monday — Friday with occasional after hours or weekends.
What You Will Do
- Coordinates maintenance efforts across all levels of the organization.
- Drives optimum employee performance through training / development opportunities, effective coaching / counseling of staff, and setting meaningful, measurable goals.
- Trains team to ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
- Provides input into employee merit increases and disciplinary actions.
- Oversees facilities design and inspection, equipment repair and installation.
- Recommends/develops tools and fixtures to improve quality and productivity.
- Evaluates problematic systems/ facilities; determines optimal installation or repair services to be performed.
- Leads work for technicians including troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing equipment breakdowns involving electrical, pneumatic and mechanical components.
- Performs complex repairs to equipment, as needed. Makes suggestions regarding process improvements/changes.
- Creates, organizes and recommends PM tasks for equipment and processes using the CMMS program, MaintiMizer. Reviews and investigates missed and overdue PM’s and adjusts accordingly.
- Generates work orders for all maintenance requests for the machinery, facilities or equipment and maintains Maintenance Work Order system.
- Maintains inventory of parts and tools; works with outside vendors to acquire competitive bids for equipment, materials and supplies as needed.
- Facilitates a safety culture; performs safety audits to ensure proper use and condition of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), machines, and safeguards.
- Trains employees on safety procedures and expectations, leads investigations of near misses / incidents and facilitates the implementation of safety and ergonomics improvements.
- Champions idea generation system across the department and provides support to the team in implementing ideas.
- Executes, audits, and drives continuous improvement of 5S in department according to STERIS standards. Coordinates shop organization and cleanliness with maintenance team.
- Seeks opportunities to make incremental improvements daily and identifies solutions to remove waste from production activities.
What You Will Need to Succeed
- Associate’s degree with 8 years of relevant experience maintaining and troubleshooting electromechanical or automated equipment.
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferred, with 4 years of relevant experience.
- Experience implementing a Preventative Maintenance (PM) program in a manufacturing environment.
- Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Program Experience.
- 3 years of leadership experience, preferred including experience managing and developing a team, championing ideas and translating them into specific tasks, and gaining trust / confidence of others.
- PLC programming, robotics or electrical certifications, a plus.
- Knowledge of MS Office including Word and Excel.
