Director of Engineering, Ground Software

Muon seeks a Director of Engineering, Ground Software to lead our Ground Software teams. The ideal candidate is a capable people leader with experience organizing and directing complex software projects throughout a complete lifecycle from concept to delivery to ongoing operations. The Ground Software organization owns a broad set of software systems that enable Muon to communicate & control our constellations & satellites and process payload data into end-products, including infrastructure, networks, and applications like mission control software, data pipelines, and customer-facing APIs. This role is ideally located at our headquarters in Mountain View, California. Responsibilities include guiding several teams of software engineers developing Muon’s ground software systems, recruiting and planning for organizational growth, hiring new team members and managers, mentoring team members, translating high-level mission concepts into requirements and roadmaps, collaborating with Flight Software, Operations, Systems, and RF teams, creating an inclusive and collaborative culture, identifying and implementing processes and tools to accelerate development, and owning end-to-end development from product concept to delivery. Qualifications include a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in computer science or related field or equivalent experience, 6 years direct management experience, 10 years experience on high performing software teams, experience managing multiple teams and managers, ability to drive a high-performing technical team, experience owning complex software systems from design through production, proficiency in Python, Go, or C , experience building and executing technical roadmaps, and excellent communication skills. Nice-to-have skills include experience with networking, Linux systems, cloud environments, information security best practices, deploying evolving data services, migrating cloud environments, and success in high-growth startups.
