Job Responsibilities Establishes and maintains a police presence on assigned school campus(es); patrols campus frequently for security and safety. Monitors student behavior during lunch, between classes and other times as necessary to maintain order. Promotes a positive attitude toward the law and law enforcement officers through frequent personal contact with school youth. Provides counseling and education to youth in an effort to reduce juvenile crime on campus and in the community. Mediates disputes between students.

  • Gives informative presentations at faculty meetings, parent education events, parent-teacher meetings, service clubs and community organization meetings.
  • Teaches law-related classes. Prepares materials including handouts, student notebooks, lesson plans, visual aids, etc., for class instruction.
  • Advises school officials and teachers on various issues pertaining to school safety.
  • Identifies gang / drug activity and other potential problem areas; recommends and/or implements corrective action.
  • Communicates with parents to discuss law violations; refers parents to outside organizations for assistance as appropriate.
  • Participates in school / extracurricular activities as appropriate; coordinates event security.
  • Responds to school disturbances and other emergency situations; investigates school crimes or crimes committed by students.
  • Documents all contact with teachers and students; maintains incident and activity records and prepares related reports.
  • Reviews and studies trends in school criminal activity.

This position is located at both the Airport and Beltline campuses of Midlands Technical College, providing support for Middle College students as well as Richland 1 students enrolled in courses on campus. Minimum And Additional Requirements Must have a high school diploma. Must have (or be able to obtain within 1 year) Class I Law Enforcement certification in accordance with SC Code 23-23-40 of South Carolina Code of Laws 1976 as amended. Must be at least 21 years old. Must have & maintain a valid SC driver’s license and a working knowledge of SC laws, rules, and regulations. Must be able to obtain SRO Certification within 1 year of date of employment.

Preferred QualificationsKnowledge of pertinent federal, state and local laws, regulations, codes, ordinances and guidelines. Skilled in using firearms and other police-issued equipment; operating police vehicles; using computers and a variety of computer programs for administrative record-keeping and reporting; performing required calculations; teaching and counseling youth.
